My husband had a root canal two weeks ago and developed a serious infection. I called Dr. Bral at 8:30pm and by 9:00pm my husband was being examined. Dr. Bral was thorough, friendly, professional, kind, patient. Thanx to Dr. Bral my husband avoided nerve damage. I am extremely grateful for his service. I would recommend him to anyone.

About Root Canal Therapy

Root canal treatment is designed to prevent tooth loss and pain. In many cases, tooth decay leads to an infection that, unless treated early, requires root canal treatment. Over time, the bacteria that creates cavities in teeth will spread deeper and lead to an internal infection. This infection will eventually reach the tooth pulp, affecting nerve tissues and causing extreme pain and sensitivity. Once this occurs, the infection is too severe to treat with a filling or antibiotics.

In other cases, a tooth can be damaged during traumatic injuries, causing severe pain and nerve death. Without treatment, the tooth may be extremely sensitive and deteriorate.

In either instance, our Jericho dentist will need to provide root canal therapy or extract the tooth to stop pain or spread of infection. The standard of care is to preserve your natural tooth with endodontic treatment.

During root canal therapy, Dr. Bral removes the nerve inside your tooth, cleans out the chambers to remove bacteria, and fills the chamber to seal it off. As a result, your tooth stays intact to preserve your smile and prevent future discomfort.

What to Expect During Root Canal Therapy

Local anesthesia will be used to numb your tooth and keep you comfortable. While you won’t feel pain, you may notice some pressure as Dr. Bral cleans out the tooth.

Next, we create an opening at the top of the affected tooth to access the nerve chamber. At this point, we remove the nerve tissue from the pulp chamber and the narrow canals that extend through your tooth roots.

Then, Dr. Bral will rinse these canals with a disinfectant solution to eliminate the bacterial infection. At this point, we seal the root canals to prevent bacteria from re-entering the tooth.

After Your Root Canal

After Dr. Bral identifies areas of decay, he will create a treatment plan tailored to your needs. Cavities are a common occurrence, so the typical procedure involves a small filling as long as they’re caught early enough.

First, Dr. Bral will numb your tooth with a local anesthetic. Since cavities are caused by a bacterial infection, he will then clean out your tooth to remove any bacteria or compromised enamel. Next, we will fill your tooth with a matching white composite resin that blends in with the surrounding tooth structure.

After a few hours, you can go back to your usual routine. If you have a large cavity, you may experience some sensitivity for a few days.
