About Wisdom Teeth

For many people, wisdom teeth (third molars) can cause problems such as mouth pain or crooked teeth because of the pressure they create as they develop. If there’s a lack of space, it prevents the wisdom tooth from erupting correctly. Instead, they might grow at an angle, push other teeth out of the way, or become impacted within the jaw. In these cases, seeking out a wisdom teeth removal dentist in Jericho to remove the wisdom teeth is the best way to save your smile, prevent pain, and limit damage to healthy adjacent teeth.

When Should Wisdom Teeth Be Removed?

If you see Dr. Bral for regular dental checkups, he will examine your mouth regularly to see if you have wisdom teeth coming in. As you mature, we’ll monitor these teeth to see if they are developing correctly. If they are crooked, impacted in the jaw, or only partially erupted, Dr. Bral will recommend removing them before complications arise.

Common warning signs of wisdom teeth complications include:

Pain near the back of your mouth
Swelling along your jaws
Swollen, painful gums
Bad breath
Headaches
Stiff jaw joints
Infection or decay around your back teeth (molars)

Typical Wisdom Teeth Removal Procedure

Luckily, having your wisdom teeth removed is not always a complicated process. In fact, Dr. Bral may be able to remove wisdom teeth on the same day as your consultation. Otherwise, you can choose the best day for your wisdom tooth removal to allow recovery time. We’re even open on Sundays!

Laughing gas (nitrous oxide) allows light sedation to keep you comfortable. Next, Dr. Bral will numb the areas around your wisdom teeth, then remove them and close the extraction site with dissolvable stitches if needed.

You may feel sore for the next few days. We’ll provide you with special instructions to follow during your recovery. You will also need to take pain medication and antibiotics as directed.

Wisdom Teeth Removal Cost

The cost of having wisdom teeth extracted will depend on how many teeth need to be removed and the type of extraction necessary. In any event, Jericho Dental strives to offer affordable wisdom teeth removal to all patients. We accept most major PPO dental insurances, work with third-party lenders, and offer in-house financing.
